International Women’s Day – It’s a Wrap!!

I hope you got a chance to read at least some of the stories that we published earlier this month (8 in total).  To my surprise, we had a HUGE response (21k views and growing!). And honestly, this was nothing to do with me, but more related to the shock of what some of these women had to endure.

And what made me super happy, while most of them were either slightly nervous or plain terrified of sharing their story, people’s response to them – was simply amazing. Their feeling of fear and worry evaporated and changed to invigoration from the support and encouragement they received from their own colleagues who cherished their story.  It was lovely.

And this is how we Break the Bias – by talking about it and naming it for others, not in an angry way or in an accusatory way, but in a positive way.  I’ll be honest – I felt proud of them. And it drew me closer to them too.

And on that note, why CAN’T International Women’s Day be EVERY day?!

I thought it might be nice to share some awesome client success stories that have happened in 2022:

1.  Aussie female client who lives in the UK and was burnt out so she quit her job and reached out to me while visiting OZ. We did some coaching and she got a new job offer, but it was insanely low. I advised her how to respond and negotiate, and to her surprise, the employer turned around and came back with a $15k higher salary than she negotiated!

2. Female client who had worked for the same company for 13 years as a Billing and Contracts Officer and was overworked and undervalued, submitted a few applications with her new resume and managed to get a new job within 2 months with $10k higher pay!

3. Female client who works in the Health Sciences industry and was doing the work of 2 people, improved her resume to pivot towards a higher-end role in her industry. She managed to not only land the higher end job but she also continued to get call-backs for similar roles from her new resume. Oh, and she got more money too!

4. Single mum got out of a toxic workplace (Social Work), changed careers (Not-for-Profit Admin) and managed to gain $20k/yr more pay AND flexible working close to home!

5. Female client who was new to OZ found it hard to land her first Architect role without ‘local’ experience.  Through networking, she met some lovely architects and next week she starts a contract with a new firm. This took her 18 months of networking, but she never gave up!

And with that, It’s a Wrap!  Even though International Women’s Day was a resounding success, there is much more work to do.  I will keep coaching people on their rights and their worth, and challenge the bias they feel about themselves or others.

As my dear friend Kim says, “Be the change you want to see”.

Thanks for reading.
