Resumes, Cover Letters and Applications
There is a Grand Canyon of advice and information online about resumes and cover letters.
Some say max 2 pages, others max 4 pages. Should I include my address? Are references required? Cover letter – NO cover letter?
How do you know which is the best advice?

The truth is your resume/CV only has an average of 6 seconds to make a good impression or, it gets tossed. You’ve got to make those 6 seconds count!
First thing you should know – Australia isn’t too fussed on whether you call it a CV or resume. Resumes are the preferred term for IMPower Coaching because it implies you have used a customised format and limited your work history to 15 years. (A CV is applicable for roles where you list all your academic achievements and entire work history.)

Robin uses a resume template style that recruiters like and that takes full advantage of the white space, without being too cluttered or wordy.
She’ll help you address job gaps in your work history, due to job loss, moving cities or other career breaks.
Once you’ve got a great resume, you won’t have to tweak it much other than occasionally adding more key words or search terms that will help you get to the top of the pile.

As for your Cover Letters, the jury is still out on whether you need to write them. From asking recruiters, our polls indicate that half of the recruiters read them and half don’t.
If the job advertisement asks you to send a cover letter, don’t risk it! Robin can teach you a simple cover letter format that will encourage those who do read it, to also review your resume too.
